Shunt Excited DC Motor

Brief Introduction

In operation, when this series of shunt excited dc motor fails to start, reasons may be: 1) the input cable is disconnected or loose; 2) the motor is overload; 3) motor input voltage is too low; 4) the displacement of brush holder. Thus, methods should be adopted to solve this problem: 1) check the wiring; 2) lower the load; 3) increase the input voltage; 4) adjust the position of brush holder.

If the motor's vibration is loud, caused reasons are: 1) the bolts of motor supports are loose; 2) the coupling joints are non-concentric; 3) the motor armature counter balance falls off; 4) the supported (Fan) load is not balanced; 5) the armature fan blade falls off. Treatment methods including: 1) fasten the anchor bolts; 2) re-connect and adjust concentricity; 3) re-correct dynamic balance of armature; 4) re-connect dynamic balance and 5) check and solve the problems should be adopted.
