The AC motor slip ring type is equipped with a slide bearing, its rotor should be placed at the magnetic center position (see sign on the motor) or at the midpoint of the rotor's axial travel (mechanical center). If the position of the magnetic center cannot be determined or no sign is provided for the position of the magnetic center, place the rotor at the mechanical center. When the AC motor slip ring type has been positioned to meet the axial travel requirements, install and tighten the foot bolts. The motor is checked for angular and positional alignment. Angular alignment is verified by measuring the clearance between the coupling planes, using a plug gauge at the top, bottom and both sides of the coupling. All readings should be taken at the same radius from the center of the shaft and at the largest possible diameter location. The two shafts (motor and driven equipment) are then turned together through 180 degrees and measured at each 90 degree position. This ensures that the angular relationship between the shafts is accurately checked without being affected by any axial positional protrusions.

 

When mounting the AC motor slip ring type, do not allow hitting it with heavy objects that could deform the housing or damage the bearings and other parts. The installation of any electric motor and driven equipment has the problem of temporary alignment, which is likely to cause deformation of the motor in some places during transportation. Therefore, the motor must be righted after installation.
