Brief Introduction

The operation principle of 3 phase permagnent magnet synchronous motor is the same as that of ordinary electrically-excited synchronous motor, but it replaces the excitation of the excitation winding with the excitation of permanent magnets, which makes the structure of the motor simpler and reduces the cost of machining and assembling, and also eliminates the collector rings and brushes, which are prone to problems, and improves the reliability of the motor's operation. Since there is no need for excitation current, there is no excitation loss, which improves the working efficiency of the motor.

The stator of PMSM mainly consists of two parts: stator winding and stator core. Stator windings are currently available in distributed and centralized structures. Distributed windings are similar to the stator multiphase AC windings of an asynchronous motor in that it is generally desired that the stator windings distributed in the stator slots produce an ideal flux potential of a sinusoidal waveform; however, the actual windings will not produce an ideal sinusoidal waveform.

The rotor of a PMSM mainly consists of permanent magnets, rotor core, rotor shaft and bearings. The rotor of a conventional grid-supplied asynchronous-start permanent magnet synchronous motor will be fitted with cage windings, and modern permanent magnet synchronous motors for frequency regulation are usually not fitted with rotor windings. According to the position of the permanent magnet in the rotor core it can be divided into surface type and built-in type PMSMs.
